The ninth symphony shall be one of the classics during the period of romance.
As what Beethoven wished to express, the first impression the ninth symphony gave me was fantastic, romantic, and idealistic. Though the main rhythm is so simple, the rhythm symbolizes passionate desires for freedom, equality, and brotherhood. I have heard the work before, but this time hearing it, I have some feelings to the current condition on the society in Taiwan.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of such creed that Confucius had established:" We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men and women will have their own homes and occupations."
I have a dream that one day in the Legislative Yuan, the politicians from KMT and those from PPT will be able to sit together, enacting proper regulations at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day, even at the corner somewhere in the dark side of a cosmopolitan city, an area sweltering with the heat of injustice and unemployment, love and hope would shine on faces whom are eager to rise up to dignity.
I have a dream my descendants will one day live in a nation where they will not be oppressed by the restricted international space but have the right to speak for Formosa in the United Nations. I have a dream today!
I have a dream that one day the island of Formosa, whose governor's lips are presently dripping with the words of hollowness and unreality, will be transformed into situation where citizens can highly trust the president as well as the government and have faith in the promising future of Taiwan. I have a dream today!
I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, rivers will return to their original looks, and wildlife can have joy in the paradise of forests on the island, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.
I had those dream when and after I heard the ninth symphony. Emotions surge, as if I returned to those years the Revolution began. Just as the unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind mentioned by Bertrand Russel in his book, Autobiography. The whole world of loneliness, poverty, and pain make a mockery of what human life should be. Beethoven had the hope to reach the true, the good, and the beautiful, and after two centuries, when I heard the symphony I should have the same passion to struggle for my dreams.
